VPS Management Guide
This guide covers the essential features for managing your Virtual Private Server (VPS) through the Simbavault client portal. From power controls to networking and backups, you'll find everything you need to control your server environment.
Server Management Actions
From the "My Services" area in your dashboard, select your VPS to access its management panel. Here you can perform several key actions to control the state of your server:
- Start/Boot: Powers on your VPS if it is currently off.
- Shutdown: Performs a graceful shutdown of the operating system. This is the preferred and safest method to turn off your server.
- Reboot: Performs a graceful restart of your VPS, allowing the OS to shut down and start up properly.
- Power Off: Forcibly cuts power to your VPS. This is equivalent to pulling the power cord from a physical machine.
Warning: Only use this if the server is completely unresponsive and a regular shutdown fails, as it can lead to data corruption.
- Reinstall OS: This will completely wipe your server and reinstall the operating system you choose.
Warning: This is a destructive action. All data on the server will be permanently lost and cannot be recovered.
Networking and Firewall
Your VPS comes with a dedicated static IPv4 address which will not change. You can manage your server's network security through our intuitive Cloud Firewall, which is accessible from your VPS management panel.
Cloud Firewall
The firewall allows you to create rules to explicitly control what traffic can reach your server. By default, all incoming ports are blocked, providing a secure foundation. You must create rules to allow traffic for the services you intend to run.
A common firewall configuration for a web server would be to allow traffic on the following ports:
- TCP Port 22: For SSH access (so you can manage your server).
- TCP Port 80: For standard web traffic (HTTP).
- TCP Port 443: For secure web traffic (HTTPS).
Backups and Snapshots
We offer on-demand snapshots, allowing you to create a point-in-time image of your server's disk. This is a powerful tool for backups and system recovery.
- Creating a Snapshot: In your VPS management panel, navigate to the "Snapshots" tab and click "Create Snapshot". This process may take a few minutes and is best performed when server activity is low.
- Restoring from a Snapshot: You can restore your VPS to a previous state by selecting a snapshot and clicking "Restore".
Warning: This is a bare-metal restore. It will overwrite all current data on your server with the data from the snapshot. All changes made since the snapshot was created will be permanently lost.
Snapshots are useful for creating a manual backup before making significant system changes. For automated, regular backups with retention policies, please consider our dedicated Backup service.
Scaling Your VPS Resources
As your application grows, you may need more resources like CPU, RAM, or storage. You can easily upgrade your VPS plan without needing to migrate your data.
- In your VPS management panel, click on "Upgrade/Downgrade".
- Select the new, more powerful plan you wish to move to.
- Follow the checkout process to pay the pro-rated difference for the current billing cycle.
After the upgrade, your server will require a reboot to apply the new resources (CPU and RAM). The server's disk will be automatically resized to the new plan's capacity upon the next boot.
